Heat shrink packaging is one of the most popular shrink packaging methods. It is a type of packaging that shrinks when heated and tightly adher to the surface of the product. Heat shrink film has many advantages, such as being made of polyolefin, offering a variety of thickness, transparency, strength, and shrinkage options, and being suitable for primary packaging and product protection, wrapping all kinds of products. However, it also has some disadvantages.

Disadvantages of heat shrink packaging:

Heat shrink packaging also has many disadvantages. Heat shrink film packaging offers three material options: PVC, polyolefin, and polyethylene, each with significant differences and certain drawbacks. Here are some of their disadvantages:

- PVC has chemical costs and harmful by-products that can be detrimental to human and animal health, and its use has been banned in many areas and countries.

- PVC softens and wrinkles at high temperatures and becomes hard and brittle at low temperatures, affecting its shrinkage performance.

- When heated, PVC emits a strong, unpleasant odor that is harmful and irritating.

- While PVC is inexpensive, the use of polyolefin is costly, so it is important to avoid punctures that lead to waste and make efficient use of the material to maximize its utilization.

- The shrinkage rate of PVC is only 20%-30%, and it is not cost-effective.

- Some products cannot be packaged using heat shrink packaging, such as electronic products, chocolate, and ice cream, which require the use of low temperature polyolefin shrink film.

- The packaging speed is slow and cannot achieve continuous high-speed production.
